Hi! This is our second project, which we developed for the Lost Cartridge Jam 2021 .

In this virtual world, you are a boy (or a girl) seeking to recycle all garbage in town. For that mission, you need to walk around with your three hammers and make sure you hit every single piece of garbage and enemy that you find with the suitable hammer (yellow for plastic waste, green for glass, blue for paper).

How to navigate through the menu:

• Press the space bar to start to access the menu

• Use A and D to move horizontally and choose your level

• Press the space bar again to load the level and start playing! :)

How to play:

• Press the A and D keys to move left and right.

• Press the W key to jump

• Press the Q key to change your hammer selection

• Press the E key to attack

For this game, and following the requirements of the jam, we have decided to adapt our game proposal as if it had been released for the Game Boy Color console, being, thus, characterised by its 4:3 screen, 8x8 four-colour sprites, and 8-bit sounds and background music. For us, Frog&Panda, this kind of aesthetics and gameplay bring us to our childhood memories with the utmost nostalgia, and it has meant a means of conveying ideas that are timeless, such as recycling, in a way that takes us back in time to the 90s like a time capsule.

Furthermore, we wanted to take the opportunity of this jam to spread awareness on the importance of recycling to protect the environment and our beautiful planet. We hope that you like our game and that you share it with your friends, family, and on your social networks. Everyone needs a reminder on the life-changing habit that recycling impersonates!

Thanks for playing :)

I think this ended up being a unique concept with some cute ideas inside! I think you had a pretty clear vision that you communicated through the game.

I did think the controls were a bit awkward, and it caused me some trouble navigating the levels. I thought the idea for the enemies was cute as well, but without the reference guide on your page, I would have been a bit lost. I think when you have more time to polish this up, it would help to have level 1 be the "tutorial" level, where it kind of introduces the enemies and mechanics. The music was cute, and I applaud you for even getting that done in the short time frame the jam gave you, but I'd recommend also expanding on that and making the melody longer. It loops pretty quickly, which is fine for a short playthrough, but it does become pretty noticeable pretty quickly.

Overall, impressive work for a short time frame and for learning as you go! Keep working, and I'm sure you'll see the improvement come quickly!

Hi!

First of all, we are really thankful and we highly appreciate the fact that you took your time to play our game and to leave such a thorough and well-detailed review. Your feedback definetely helps us to notice mistakes and to fix them for the upcoming projects. In the case of Recycle Land, we were aware of the controls and the short music loop thing, but we couldn't fix it anymore because the jam had already ended and we're not allowed to post updates.  However, a new version is already ready for release, and we're waiting to be allowed to launch it.

Once again, thank you and let's keep on cherishing and supporting each other :)

I just finished your game. Loved it! The concept was fun and made the game more interesting. I also really enjoyed the little boss fight at the end.

My only gripes would be the controls and music. It may just be how I am, but I felt using the 'Q' and 'E' keys felt a little uncomfortable. That's more of a subjective opinion, so feel free to take that with a grain of salt. The music, however (although pretty faithful-sounding) had a very short loop that was extremely noticeable.

Beyond that, I was very pleased with what I played. I loved the style, and everything worked as it should. I ran into zero problems. Once again, the concept was a good choice. Great work, and thanks for the experience! :)

We are really thankful that you played our game and you're leaving us some feedback. We highly appreciate it ♥ We are happy that you enjoyed the game and that you liked the concept and the level design.

In my case (Hi! I'm Panda ✨💫) it was my first time creating music for a game and I was ATTACKED! But I'm glad that you enjoyed it. To be fairly honest, I was 100% aware of the short loop thing, but I honestly didn't know how to use the tools that I had to create a longer one (plus, I had no energy left, the bags under my eyes made me look like an actual panda, hihi). But stay tuned for the new stuff we're bringing! We're gonan rock! (Okay, that was a lil way too savage). Last but not least, the moral of the story: PLEASE RECYCLE <3 <3 That's the key point of the whole thing. I hope to see you soon on our platform ♥ Hands up for warm-hearted players like you. You're the ones who encourage us to do what we do. ♥♥♥♥ (-Panda)

As for me (Hi! I'm the Frog man 🐸) I became aware of my not-so-ideal decision regarding the keybindings, but it was too late when I did TwT I thought of picking K/O or L/P (as a way of re-creating the original game-boy buttons). I'm impressed that you noticed it and I thank  you for your feedback. It is definetely helpful and inspiring for the games to come. (I'm also impressed that you analyzed it so thoroughly but you didn't find any bug... I did some intensive testing but I tend to self-boycott my own work so I was pretty sure that there had to be something that I forgot fixing... Oops, that was meant to stay inside my head *hides in panic*). THANK U 💞🌼

You're very welcome. I had fun playing this, and I love being able to support other indie developers. There's nothing worse than putting a lot of time and effort into a project, and then receiving almost zero input after sharing it. That's why I try my best to write PROPER reviews, so people know that I really did pay attention to what they poured their blood, sweat, and tears into.

It's true, though. I don't recall finding any bugs. It doesn't mean there aren't any, but if there are, they're not game-breaking or very obvious. That's pretty impressive, and you should be proud that you were able to accomplish that in such a rushed amount of time.

As for Panda, don't worry, I totally get that. We all got to start somewhere, and it's hard to work with sleep deprivation. Just keep at it. I have full confidence that you will end up being amazing at your craft. :)
